                MINGIE Walter
Walter Hamilton Mingie 1914
Here is the information about the photo: This is Walter Hamilton Mingie taken in 1914. He was born in Norfolk, VA. He lived in Montreal after the Civil War, probably moving there because he had been a friend, neighbor, and supporter of General Lee and the Southern Cause. I am told he was asked by Lee to be his chief of supplies, but I will have to do more investigation on this. From the back of the photo, he fathered George, Roderick, Grace Elizabeth (my grandmother), Eva Virginia, Walter James Ellis, and Frank Hamilton. That is all I know about this photo. I have included a scan of the reverse side as well since it contains so much handwritten information. I hope someone finds this link to their heritage. It would mean we are somewhat related. His daughter, Grace Elizabeth married my Grandfather, William Charles Montignani and moved to Cumberland, Maryland where she died in the flu epidemic of 1919. She was survived by 5 children.

I am interested in information on Johann (John) Menge, who married Elizabeth Böck, and had two children, Elisabeth (17 Sep 1891) and Agnes (24 Aug 1894).  All were born in
Germany and emigrated to Chicago around the turn of the century. Elisabeth married John Hollerauer, and died in June 1972 in Plato Center, Illinois.  Agnes married my grandfather, Frederick W. Madl on 11 May 1915 (they snuck off to Crown Point, Indiana for the ceremony).  I believe that there were at least 2 more children, possibly Henry and

MINGA/NEWCOMB
Marie Bull  and mingia@blueridge.net 9 Sep 1998 18:51
I am working in this line as well.  I have a Martha Elizabeth Lewis married to a Minga the first time.  I am showing two children Emmeline Many 1865 and Mary Aug 1866 (I am assuming for the time being this are birth dates)  This Martha Minga married Jim Newcomb the second time and the date I have for that is 1868.  The notes I inherited are very unorganized and so I cannon be certain of spellings and if the dates are births, deaths, or marriages.  The rest
is pretty certain.  Does this help you and do you know anything on this line that could help me?  Martha Minga Newcomb lived in the Wayne County area. Thank you.
Marie Bull please let me know your address

MINGA
Betty Peterson and mingia@blueridge.net      July 09, 1998 8:22
Miller Minga, born 12-28-1822, died 6-1-1896, buried at Wheeler's Chapel  Cemetery in Washington Co., TN or Sullivan Co., VA.  Wife Elizabeth M. Roller,  and had nine children.  Need information about his mother, first name unknown.  She is my great-grandmother, and oral family history consistently said that  she came on a ship from Germany to this country either before he was born or  when he was a small child.  That would have been in early 1800s.
I know of no siblings to Miller Minga.   And since he married and raised his  family in the Sullivan County, Tennessee area, it is possible some records of  her exist in that general vicinity.  Although I doubt that the lady Minga is directly connected to the names I have checked in your  index etc., I am still  hoping someone can give me a lead. In case it can help someone, the names of Miller Minga's nine children are: Mary, James, John Henry, Ellen, Kate, Margaret Elizabeth, Noah, David, Emma Isobel. I can supply quite a few names and dates of descendents of these children.

MINGUS/HERRON
Georgine Woodley and mingia@blueridge.net May 4, 1998 1:55
I am researching the nam MINGUS. I have been told that my G grandfather John W. MINGUS was born in Franklin Co. NC to Lawson and Sarah Buce MINGUS (native of Franklin Co.). I have not been able to locate a Lawson as yet and thought they may have changed the spelling. My Grandfather  was Clarence E. MINGUS born 17 Feb. 1884 in Guthrie Co. Ia. His father was John W. and his mother was Margret HERRON. Margret and John divorced and she went to Co. and my grandfather took care of her until she died. I know John was a schoolmaster and have located them on the 1880 census in Orange township, Guthrie Co. Ia. Some said John was born Mar. 31, 1848. Margret and John had another son, William A. who had two daughters, Morene and Helen. I believe that John married again and his wife my have been Verella. John taught school in Ky and Mn. My father  was Lowell MINGUS. Any help on this line will be appreciated.

Dear Ancestor:

Your tombstone stands among the rest;  Neglected and alone.
The name and the date are chiseled out  On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who cares,  It is too late to mourn.
You  did not know that I exist, You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you,  In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse, Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled  One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left, Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,  I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you.
